On the Ground Running

Well, I feel like a different person compared to a couple weeks ago. I have energy, am back to work, and I just keep going! Wahoo!

I had my last infusion yesterday. I am so glad to be done with them!! But the wait starts now. We don't really know how long my platelet count will stay up. It can stay up anywhere from a few months to a year, my thought is, Lord willing it will stay up forever. :) I don't have to go back for blood work for a month and don't have to see the doctor until March of next year. Of all I have gone though, it almost doesn't seem possible that I can wait that long to go back for a check up.

I returned to work this past week and started my new job at a local seed company. I do some bagging of seed, but I also travel around the state taking samples of the seed in the growers bins. It's a good variety and I think that I am going to enjoy it.

I'm definitely looking forward to this weekend, though I was up at 5:30 this morning. Kevin's coming home today....soo excited!!! It's going to be a great day today weather-wise and I am hoping to get a lot done.

Four weeks and counting

This is the forth Sunday in a row that I have not been able to worship with my church family. The medications that I am on for my ITP have greatly reduced my immune system. To add to that, the medication that I was put on for my adrenal glands this past week further weaken my immune system. Is't this just great... This 'people person' kind of guy has to avoid large groups of people. Ugh. Considering that I will be on these medications for many weeks to come, church is not in my near future. It's hard. I have so many great people that are praying for me that I wish I could talk with, but I can't.

I can walk again!!

It is funny how much one realizes that they take for granted when something is taken away. Due to medication complications, I was not able to walk or stand without assistance Thursday evening and Friday morning. And that was accompanied by severe pain is most joints throughout my body. talk about a scare! So, back into the clinic Friday afternoon, not for another infusion, but more testing. It turns out that the medications that I am on were affecting my adrenal glands and basically shut them down. So, since I was in so much pain, I was brought to the Critical Care Unit, where I would be able to lay and stretch out on a bed while they did more tests. After three hours, three blood draws, and an infusion of a different steriod to help my adrenal gland, I was allowed to return home. Thank goodness I didn't have to spend another night in the hospital!
Needless to say, I did not have my regularly scheduled infusion of Rituxin yesterday because of all the other stuff that was going on. But, they did do another platelet count and I was up to 126,000 and that is an increase of 121,000 from the week before!! I was in tears because initially I was told that I would never reach levels that high ever again. My parents and I are fully convinced that this results are not solely from medication. We know that God was working and still is and to Him so we give the praise for improvement! Prayer is powerful and I am greatful for all the prayers that have been said on my behalf.
It's going to be tough being stuck in the house this weekend because of the nice weather outside. But oh well. I am learning to let things go and just focus on regaining strength.
